Privacy Policy

LumiLab

LumiLab maintains its privacy policy directly on the official website. We take your privacy extremely seriously. Designed as a local-first tool, it fundamentally guarantees the safety of your photo library data. This policy includes a dedicated Face Data section that explains what face-related information is generated on your device, how it is used, where it is stored, how long it is kept, and how it is deleted.

Effective Date: 2026-09-03

1. Introduction

  • We take your privacy extremely seriously. LumiLab is designed as a local-first application. You have absolute control over your photo library, image files, and any associated data.
  • The core philosophy of this app is to utilize on-device artificial intelligence for all data processing, fundamentally eliminating any risk of data leakage.

2. Information We Collect

  • By default, we do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your personal data or image files to developer-controlled servers.
  • You do not need to register for an account to use the full core features of this application.
  • No developer server uploads: whether it is the images you scan, generated quality scores, AI feature vectors, or your cleanup logs, everything is strictly kept locally on your device.
  • Face data is generated only if you choose to run People analysis. The complete list of face data types, plus use, sharing, storage, retention, and deletion practices, is described in Section 4. Face Data.

3. Core Principle: 100% Local Processing

  • AI computations are entirely local: face detection and recognition, duplicate and similar-photo clustering, aesthetic scoring, and eye-closure analysis all run on your device's CPU or GPU with on-device inference.
  • Data isolation: image feature data generated during analysis only exists within the local database, never leaving your device. Storage uses SQLite plus a local vector store.
  • AI models are downloaded to a folder you control (customizable in Settings) and are verified before use; they are never bundled into the app or uploaded anywhere.

4. Face Data

  • What face data is collected: when you run People analysis, LumiLab processes faces in photos you have added on this device. The face data consists of (1) geometric face locations (bounding boxes and optional facial landmarks on the photo), (2) numeric face feature vectors (embeddings) used only to compare similarity, (3) quality signals derived from the face region such as sharpness and eyes-open scores, (4) grouping identifiers that associate similar faces, and (5) optional display names you type for people. LumiLab does not store a separate gallery of cropped face images, does not collect 3D face maps or TrueDepth data, and does not infer or store gender or age.
  • Planned use: face data is used only on your device to detect faces, attach similar photos to named people, cluster unnamed groups, and suggest merges. It is not used for device authentication, unlocking, advertising, profiling, marketing, or any purpose other than organizing your photos inside LumiLab.
  • Sharing: face data is not shared with any third parties. It is never uploaded to developer servers, cloud services, analytics providers, advertising networks, or any other service. LumiLab has no backend that receives face data.
  • Storage: face data is stored only on your device, in LumiLab's local application data directory (on macOS, Application Support/LumiLab). Structured records such as locations, names, and groupings are stored in a local SQLite database. Numeric face feature vectors are stored in a local on-device vector store next to that database. Original photo files remain in the folders you authorized and are not copied to our servers.
  • Retention: face data is retained only on your device, for as long as the related photos remain in LumiLab and you have not removed the associated analysis data. If a photo file changes, its face features are recomputed locally. We do not retain face data on any server because it never leaves your device.
  • Deletion: removing a photo from LumiLab deletes the associated face records and feature vectors. Marking a detection as “not a face” excludes it from clustering. Uninstalling LumiLab removes the local index, face records, and feature vectors through the system's uninstall process. Uninstalling does not modify or delete your original photo files. Face analysis never writes into original photos.

5. Permissions Usage

  • Photo/File Access: to read and analyze your images, the app requests permission to access the specific folders you choose as photo libraries on first use.
  • Security Commitment: LumiLab only reads images within the scope you explicitly authorize and will never access unauthorized files or directories. File movement operations (such as moving rejects to a trash folder) are protected by system-level sandboxing.

6. Third-Party Services & Analytics

  • We strictly do not integrate any third-party ad networks or behavioral tracking plugins (such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.).
  • Your usage habits, culling preferences, and personal characteristics will not be packaged and sent to any data brokers.
  • Face data is not disclosed, sold, or shared with any third party.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Delete handling: when you confirm cleanup, rejected photos are handled per your chosen delete method — moved to an in-library trash folder, the system Trash, or permanently removed. The default is a recoverable destination, never silent permanent deletion.
  • Face data retention and deletion follow Section 4. Face Data: the data stays on your device until the related photos are removed from LumiLab or you uninstall the app.
  • App data cleanup: if you decide to uninstall LumiLab, all locally generated index and feature database caches associated with it are removed through the system's uninstallation process. Original photo files are never modified or deleted by uninstalling.

8. Changes to the Privacy Policy

  • As the app evolves or legal requirements change, we may update this privacy policy appropriately. If changes occur, we will publish the updates on this page and update the Effective Date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
